March 27, 2019 – For Immediate Release

Kelowna BC – The summer’s charity event in support of ‘Elevation Outdoors’ is back for it’s 5th year and will be opening (team registration) Friday March 29th.

“On the Lawn powered by BDO” is expanding their ever-popular (Lawn Bowling Charity Tournament) from a 3-week event to a 4-week event allowing more teams a chance to participate and raise funds for (Elevation Outdoors).

March 29th “On The Lawn” powered by BDO opens registration to its newly expanded 40 teams.

For 2019, OTL will be comprised of two brackets with each team playing:

  • 2 weeks (instead of the regular 3 weeks) “The first set of teams will join On The Lawn and BDO as they step back in time, roll some bowls, sip a cool beverage, and have a truly awesome time July 25th and August 1st.
  • The second set of teams will play on Aug 8th and 15th.
  • For those passionate lawn bowlers out there wanting to play all 4 weeks, teams will be able to register at a discounted price and participate in both brackets.

This Event is aimed at Kelowna’s growing young professional community, who are interested in trying out something new, all while making a difference in their community.  In the past 4 years “On the Lawn” has raised over $78,000 for ‘Elevation Outdoors’, and the underprivileged youth of the Okanagan.

“As a team, we cannot wait to welcome new guests to join us in their “whites” and on the green for such an exciting event and amazing cause,” comments “On the Lawn” event coordinator Katherine Bramall.

“BDO is delighted with the growth of “On the Lawn” over the past four years and with the significant financial contribution it has provided to (Elevation Outdoors).  We are fully on-board with the format change to two brackets of 20 teams each with teams playing for two consecutive weekends. This will allow more companies and teams to join in our amazing event,” commented Mike Gilmore, BDO’s Office Managing Partner.

Mike Greer, Executive Director of (Elevation Outdoors) stated, “The Event will allow us the ability to offer this new well-rounded experience-based program – giving youth an opportunity to try adventures and outdoor pursuits, while gaining valuable volunteer experiences with a consistent group of youth and leaders throughout the year.”

Wear your whites and take the green!

About Elevation Outdoors

Elevation Outdoors was founded in 2007 by Tori Hanson and a small group of dedicated individuals who recognized a need in our community.  From our first ever Learn to Shred program with 6 participants, our focus has always been on breaking down barriers and helping young people find a passion to help them lead a healthy, happier life.  Since then, we have expanded our program offerings to include snowboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and sailing. All of our programs have full scholarship seats available for any eligible youth or families to ensure all young people have an opportunity to develop a healthy passion.  Starting in 2019, we have expanded who can access our programs so that families that do not meet our eligibility criteria can now pay for a seat in our programs as we believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to find a passion and learn from our amazing mentor team.

Elevation Outdoors provides all the required equipment for its different programs so that all participants need to do is show up with a positive attitude and a willingness to try something new. Transportation from a common meeting point is also included in our programs to ensure that each youth has an opportunity to participate. Each program is facilitated with the help of our team of volunteer mentors who are there to share their passion for the activity, and to build a positive relationship with the participants. We strive to keep ratios in our programs at 3:1 or lower so that our volunteer mentors and participants are able to have quality conversations and build a relationship while in our programs.

Since our first program in 2008, we have been able to help hundreds of young people find a new passion and develop more healthy lifestyles while learning skills that will stay with them for life.
